ABSTRACT
The blue field entopic phenomenon [BFE], which allows the observation of one's own leucocytes flowing in the macular retinal capillaries was used to predict postoperative macular function in 90 consecutive patients undergoing cataract surgery. Ten eyes were excluded because of in cooperation or complications occurred during and after surgery. The test was found positive in 97% of patients had good macular function postoperatively and 83% negative who had poor macular function. The test is noninvasive, inexpensive, easy to perform and provides information on the perifoveal retinal circulation and on macular function. It can also be used to clarify the prognostic value of cataract extraction preoperatively
