histopathological study on the toxic effects of sublethal doses of aldicarb in rats

A group of 15 adult male rats weighing about 150-200 g were given aldicarb in a dose of 0.2 mg/kg/body weight [equivalent to 1/5 of the acute oral LD50 of aldicarb in rats], daily, orally by gavage for a period of 4 consequent days. Compared with the control [non- treated] group, aldicarb treated group showed pericellular haloes of edema of the pyramidal cells of the cerebral cortex, cloudy swelling of the myocardial tissue and renal tubules, signs of congestion of the central veins, cellular infiltrations of the hepatic tissue with cholestasis.
