Role of percutaneous nephrostomy in management of pyonephrosis

ABSTRACT
This study included the drainage of 38 pyonephrotic renal units in 37 patients by percutaneous nephrostomy tube. In 36 patients, the clinical symptoms [fever and loin pain], mainly disappeared 48 - 72 hours after the procedure. One patient died from septic shock. Four patients in whom the obstruction cleared spontaneously following percutaneous nephrostomy needed no further treatment. Definitive procedures were carried out in 32 patients once the acute stage had remitted and the patient's general condition allows
