ABSTRACT
A prospective study was conducted to determine the pattern of acute intestinal obstruction in patients who were admitted and treated in Surgical Unit I Liaquat Medical College Hospital [L.M.C.H] Jamshoro from October 1993 to September 1994. During this period a total of 656 patients were admitted in our unit, of these 103 patients [15.70%] had acute intestinal obstruction. External hernias were found to be the commonest cause of acute intestinal obstruction followed by post operative adhesions. The other common causes included congenital bands, strictures and volvulous. Ileocaecal tuberculosis still remains an important cause
