ABSTRACT
A prospective study of 20 patients with obstructive jaundice due to stones in common bile duct, who underwent transduodenal exploration of common bile duct, sphincteroplasty and extraction of stones was carried out at Rawalpindi General Hospital. Mean age of the patients was 52 years [range 35-75 years]. There were 18 female and 2 male patients. Mean duration of symptoms of biliary disease was 6.8 years [range 1-22 years]. One patient died on 12[th] post-operative day. All patients were symptom free in follow-up. Transduodenal sphincteroplasty is a safe procedure and is not associated with serious risk of post-operative cholangitis, pancreatitis or duodenal leak
