RESUMO

A presente pesquisa, de caráter qualitativo, teve como objetivo principal verificar as variáveis que interferem na prática da amamentação das puérperas e nutrizes que tenham crianças de 0 a 12 meses atendidas no Programa Saúde da Família (PSF) da Chapada, município de Aporá (BA). Para a viabilização desta pesquisa, utilizou-se como técnica de coleta de dados a entrevista semi-estruturada, realizada durante as consultas de enfermagem e em visitas domiciliares. Buscou-se definir o diagnóstico da situação do aleitamento materno nesta população, a fim de estabelecer metas e elaborar estratégias de intervenção para o incentivo à prática do aleitamento materno. O trabalho de campo foi realizado na área de abrangência do PSF da Chapada, município de Aporá (BA). A análise dos dados foi realizada mediante o método de Análise de Conteúdo. Os resultados evidenciaram que a maioria das puérperas e nutrizes deixou de amamentar exclusivamente seus filhos antes dos seis meses de vida, devido aos mitos e tabus ainda existentes. Como sugestões para o incentivo à prática do aleitamento materno exclusivo foram citadas reuniões, orientações, conversas e palestras.

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this qualitative study, was to verify the variables that interfere in the practice of breastfeeding puerperal women with children from 0 to 12 months, treated in the Family Health Program (PSF) in the Chapada region, district of Aporá, Bahia. For the feasibility of this research, the semi-structured interview was utilized as data-gathering technique, performed during nursing consultations and home visits. The aim was to define the diagnosis of the breastfeeding situation in this population in order to establish goals and elaborate intervention strategies to encourage the practice of maternal breastfeeding. The fieldwork was performed in the area of coverage of the PSF of the Chapada region, district of Aporá, Bahia. The data analysis was realized using Content Analysis methodology. The results illustrated that the majority of the puerperal women stopped breastfeeding their children exclusively before they reached sixth months of age due to the myths and taboos still existent. The recommendations to encourage the practice of exclusive maternal breastfeeding included meetings, orientations, chats, and seminars.
