ABSTRACT
A clinical assay was performed to evaluate the efficacy of homeopathic treatment in patients clinically diagnosed with anterior blepharitis. A sample of 50 patients were divided into two groups of 25 each; they were treated with alopathy and homeopathy respectively following a pluralistic criterium. The most frequently used homeopathic drugs were determined according to similarity levels, that is, Arsenicum album (6 patients) and Natrum muriaticum (5 patients)according to the local picture, Sulphur (13 patients) as field drug and Staphylococcinum (25 patients) as biotherapeutic drug. Microbiological tests showed high incidence of Staphylococcus in general and, at the end of study, 4 patients remained positive although asymptomatic. The only symptomatic patient in the alopathy-treated group showed negative culture results. When comparing the results of both therapies, it was observed that they were similar (p= 3), so it was concluded that the two lines of treatment are equally effective.
