ABSTRACT
We report the case of a 13 years old adolescent, female, admitted at the pediatric emergency unit of the University Hospital of Brasília with fever for twenty days, hepatosplenomegaly, paleness and cytopenia. The myelogram evidenciated many figures of hemophagocytosis with no evidence of malignancy and the serology (IgM and IgG) for cytomegalovirus was positive. With these findings, we can conclude that the patient presented hemophagocytic syndrome secondary to cytomegalovirus. With the indicated treatment, for both the syndrome and the infection, it was possible to observe a fast and important improvement, with remission of the manifestations.
