RESUMO

Para entendermos o desporto dos nossos dias é preciso, em primeiro lugar, conhecer o pensamento filosóficoda Antiguidade, nomeadamente os ideais, princípios e valores inerentes à transcendência, ao sentido e salvaçãoda vida. Em segundo lugar, é necessário perceber o alcance da relação entre cultura e natureza na configuraçãodo homem e do seu corpo, estabelecida pelo Iluminismo, o Humanismo e a Modernidade, com destaque paraRousseau, Kant, Pestalozzi e Humboldt. É aí que enraíza o “Homo Sportivus”, uma evolução do “HomoGymnasticus” e do “Homo Olympicus” projetado por Coubertin. Em terceiro lugar, devemos compreender a"tecnização do mundo", denunciada por Heidegger, própria do ambiente de concorrência generalizada chamado"globalização". O progresso, o conhecimento, a técnica e o domínio da natureza, que antes serviam ideaissuperiores e exteriores, passaram da categoria de meios para a de fins. Também isto nos incita a recriar umHumanismo conforme às exigências do nosso tempo.

ABSTRACT

To understand the nowadays sport it is necessary, at first, to be aware of the philosophical thinking ofthe Ancients, namely the ideals, principles and values inherent to transcendence, meaning and salvationof life. Secondly, it is necessary to understand the scope of the relation between culture and nature onthe shape of a Man and his body, established by Illuminism, Humanism and Modernity, deservingprominence Rousseau, Kant, Pestalozzi and Humboldt. It is there where Homo Sportivus takes his roots,an evolution of Homo Gymnasticus and Homo Olympicus projected by Coubertin. Thirdly, we shouldunderstand the "world's technization", invoked by Heidegger, proper of the generalized competitionenvironment called "globalization". The progress, the knowledge, the techniques and the nature domain,which used to serve superior and exterior ideals, have gone from the means to the ends' category. Thisalso prompts us to recreate a Humanism adapted to the demands of our time.
