ABSTRACT
In the orthodontic evaluation, the principles of an ideal craniofacial imaging, should include the visualization of a "true Anatomy related to a precise space localization, shape, size and the relationship between the adjacent anatomic structures, so, for this achievement, we need an evaluation in the three planes of space, once that the craniofacial anatomy is three-dimensionally defined. In this review we highlight contemporary imaging techniques and innovations in imaging, like photogrametry, laser scan and 30 computed tomography, that in the near future, are likely to greatly improve the depiction of craniofacial structures for use in diagnosis and treatment planning in Orthodontics, dentofacial orthopedics. as well in the orthognatic surgery.
