Suicídio e liberdade de vontade: possibilidades de individuação na sociedade industrial / Suicide and freedom of will: possibilities of individuation in the industrial society

RESUMO

Neste estudo investigam-se as possibilidades de liberdade e individuação na sociedade industrial, problematizando o suicídio como uma dasconseqüências da não-realização da individuação. Atenta-se para a parcela de culpa dos homens em abrir mão de sua humanidade e suas responsabilidades. Trata-se de uma pesquisa teórica que busca, além da psicologia, auxílio no mito, na arte e nas ciências sociais, embasadana análise realizada por Horkheimer e Adorno da formação do indivíduo através da imagem de Ulisses (Odisséia, Homero). Acredita-se, deacordo com Crochík (2000), que uma entrega aos “instintos” corresponde à resignação da vontade humana entregar-se a uma vontade indiferente às conseqüências significa ofuscar-se, encerrar-se no egoísmo, desconsiderar que o homem é fundamentalmente social. Pensandoo suicídio como um produto da sociedade e a sociedade industrial como altamente repressora, torna-se relevante a produção deconhecimentos atualizados acerca das relações entre o indivíduo e a sociedade, a liberdade e o suicídio.

This is a theoretical research interested in going beyond psychology, by drawing its assumptions from myth, arts, and social sciences, based on the analyses carried on by Horkheimer and Adorno on individual’s development enlightened by the image of Ulisses (Odisséia, Homero). According to Crochík (2000), it is believed that surrendering to “instincts” corresponds to the resignation of the human will one’s surrender to a desire indifferent to the consequences means to overshadow him/herself, to set him/herself apart in selfishness, to disregard the fact that men are fundamentally social. Considering suicide as a product of society and the industrial society as highly repressive, the production of updated knowledge regarding the relations between the individual, the society, freedom and suicide, becomes,then, relevant.
