Objetivo:
Definir a prevalência da maloclusão da população de estudantes entre 6 e 16 anos da rede pública de ensino e assim contribuir com o projeto de atendimento ortodôntico público. Material emétodo:
Foram avaliados formulários de triagem de 1.076 pacientes (581 do gênero masculino e 495 feminino), com idade de seis a 16 anos.Resultados:
Do total de fichas avaliadas, 0,83% pertenciam aos pacientes que se apresentavam no estágio da dentição decídua, 63,01% na dentição mista e 36,15% na dentição permanente. Observou-se 54,37% de maloclusão de Classe I; 31,04% de Classe II e 14,59% de Classe III. O total de 24,44% dos pacientes apresentou mordida aberta; 19,70% sobremordida profunda e 30,86% mordida cruzada.Conclusão:
De acordo com os dados levantados, a amostra em sua maioria apresentava-se na dentição mista tardia (segundo período transitório), com maloclusão Classe I de Angle, apinhamento anterior e ausência de mordida cruzada.ABSTRACT

0,83% patients were in the primary dentition, 63,01% patients were in mixed dentition and 36,15% patients were in the permanent dentition. It was found 54.37% of Class I malocclusion, 31.04% of Class II malocclusion and 14.59% of Class III malocclusion. 24.44% patients were with anterior open bite, 19.70% patients were with deep bite and 30.86% patients were in crossbite.Conclusion:
According to data collected in the sample had mostly in the late mixed dentition (second transition period), with Class I Angle, anterior crowding and lack of cross-bite.
