Prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade em crianças atendidas em uma unidade básica de saúde no município de Antônio Prado (RS). / Prevalence of overweight and obesity in children assisted in a Basic Health Care Unit at the city of Antônio Prado, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

RESUMO

O aumento alarmante do excesso de peso na infância constitui um sério problema de Saúde Pública, devido ao aparecimento precoce de doenças associadas. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar as prevalências de sobrepeso e obesidade em crianças atendidas em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde além de sua relação com a elevação da pressão arterial (PA) e os valores da circunferência muscular braquial (CMB). Foram avaliadas 65 crianças de ambos os sexos, com idades entre dois e dez anos. Para a determinação de sobrepeso e obesidade, foi utilizado o índice de massa corporal, sendo os valores estratificados na forma de escore-Z. Foram analisadas as adequações de peso/idade (P/I) e estatura/idade (E/I), medida da dobra cutânea tricipital e da circunferência braquial para posterior cálculo da CMB e verificação da PA. As prevalências de sobrepeso e obesidade foram de 24,61 e 13,84%, respectivamente. Para a variável P/I, 23,07% dos indivíduos encontravam-se com peso elevado, e para E/I, 96,9% apresentaram estatura adequada para idade. Do total da amostra, 40% dos indivíduos apresentaram pré-hipertensão e 3,07%, hipertensão estágio I. A prevalência de excesso de peso encontrada nas crianças avaliadas mostrou-se elevada, confirmando a magnitude do problema.

ABSTRACT

The alarming increase of overweight in childhood is a serious Public Health problem due to the early onset of diseases related to it. The goal of this study was to verify the prevalences of overweight and obesity in children seen in a Basic Health Care Unit, besides its relation with the high blood pressure (BP) and the values of the muscle circumference of the arm (MCA). Sixty-five children from both genders and with ages between two and ten years old were evaluated. To determine overweight and obesity, the body mass index was applied with the values stratified at the Z-score. The right weight/age (W/A) and height/age (H/A), the measurement of the triceps skin fold and the circumference of the arm for a post calculation of the MCA and assessment of BP were analyzed. The overweight and obesity prevalences were 24.61 and 13.84%, respectively. For the W/A variable, 23.07% of the children were overweight, and for H/A, 96.9% had the right height per age. From the total of the sample, 40% of the children presented pre-high blood pressure and 3.07% presented high BP level 1. The prevalence of overweight found in the assessed children was high, confirming the magnitude of the problem.
