Empleo de Adhesivos Cianoacrílicos en Cirugía Ocula / Use of cyanoacrylate adhesives in ocular surgery

RESUMEN

El órgano de la visión puede ser en ocasiones irreversiblemente dañado cuando no se procede a tiempo ante alguna agresión externa. El uso de adhesivos cianoacrílicos en tejido ocular proporciona una alternativa a tener en cuenta en casos drásticos, pero sólo se justifica en casos donde se sospeche su pérdida, ya que los adhesivos disponibles en el mercado hasta la fecha no cumplen los requisitos óptimos como sellante de este tejido, que por sus características inherentes, resulta sumamente delicado e irritable. Se presentaron algunos métodos descritos en la literatura para el selle de heridas oculares en casos extremos, así como diversos diseños de trabajos experimentales, mediante el uso de adhesivos con base cianoacrílica. El mejor adhesivo para estos tratamientos no existe todavía.

ABSTRACT

The eye may be irreversibly damaged on ocassions when inmediate actions against an external agression are not taken. The use of cynoarcrylate adhesives in ocular tissue is an alternative to be taken into account in severe cases, but they should only be used when it is suspected the loss of this tissue, since the adhesives available in the market up to now fulfill the optimal requirements to seal this tissue, which due to its inherent characteristics is extremely delicate and irritable. Some methods described in literature for sealing ocular wounds in very serious cases as well as different experimental works using adhesives with cyanoacrylate base were presented. The best adhesive for these treatments does not exist yet.
