Relación entre neuropatía autonómica y retinopatía diabética en pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 / Relationship between autonomic neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetic patients

RESUMEN

En la diabetes mellitus se han descrito alteraciones en el control que ejerce el sistema nervioso autónomo sobre diferentes órganos y sistemas. Dentro de estas se encuentra la alteración sobrela regulación autonómica de la pupila, a la que se le ha denominado neuropatía autonómica pupilar diabética (NAPD). El presente artículo es una revisión de la relación que existe entre la dinámica pupilar y los cambios retinales en pacientes diabéticos tipo 2, y hace una descripciónde la dinámica pupilar y de los cambios retinales en pacientes diabéticos, así como de la relación que existe entre ellas y el tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad.

ABSTRACT

Alterations have been described in the autonomic nervous system’s control on different organs and systems as a result of diabetes mellitus. They include the alteration of the autonomic regulation ofthe pupil, which has been called Diabetic Autonomic Pupillary Neuropathy (NAPD, for its initialsin Spanish). This paper is a review of the existing relationship between pupillary dynamic and retinal changes in type 2 diabetic patients, and describes pupillary dynamics and retinal changes in diabetic patients, as well as the relationship between them and the time of evolution of the disease.
