It was conducted in an attempt to clarify the key issues responding to controversy, considering childbirth as a biopsychosocial event and not just as a doctor one. The issues considered were the safety of the mother and the fetus, the freedom of choice on the part of local delivery by the patient, patient satisfaction with the way the care facilities, the obstetrical health system and its cost. The study could not clarify the question of the place of birth all over the world and Brazil has not the ideal obstetrical health system for its full population.
