Este trabalho apresenta algumas características anatômicas da região que envolve o primeiro molar permanente superior e que justificam a expansão do arco dentário superior e a correção da má-oclusão de Classe II de Angle com a utilização da barra transpalatina durante a dentição mista e início da permanente. Apresenta também detalhes da confecção e instalação da BTP, ilustrando sua utilização em três casos clínicos.
