A influência da geminação dentária no plano de tratamento ortodôntico com extrações / The influence of tooth gemination in the orthodontic treatment plan with extraction

RESUMO

Protocolos com extrações dentárias representam umaopção válida de planejamento para a correção ortodôntica de muitasmás-oclusões. Normalmente, opta-se pela extração de pré-molares.Contudo, a escolha de qual dente deve ser removido depende muitoda sua integridade, e também do seu periodonto de sustentação eproteção. Outro fator que norteia a opção de extração recai sobreas anomalias de forma, de número e de posição que possam ou nãocomprometer o resultado estético ou funcional do final do tratamento.Este trabalho visou apresentar um tratamento ortodôntico com extraçõesde dois primeiros pré-molares superiores e de um incisivo inferiorgeminado. Os resultados clínico e radiográfico finais indicaram umaadequação da oclusão estática e funcional, além de proporcionar umaestética favorável do sorriso com harmonia tacial.

ABSTRACT

Protocols with extractions represent a valid option for planning orthodontic correction of many malocclusions. In this case,the option is usually by extraction of premolars. However the choice ofwhich teeth should be removed depends greatly on the integrity of thetooth and also their support and periodontal protection. Another factorthat guides the extraction option is on the anomalies of shape, number,position, which may ot may not compromise the final functional andaesthetic results of the treatment. This paper presents a orthodontictreatment with extraction of two maxillary first premolars and onemandibular incisor geminated. The clinical and radiographic resultsindicated a final adjustment of the static and functional occlusion, andprovide a favorable aesthetic smile with facial harmony.
