ABSTRACT
The existing Latin American political-programmatic efforts aim at seeking effective immunization strategies to combat pathogens that are considered extremely aggressive due to the vulnerability of the elderly to certain diseases. The objective of this study was to analyze the Latin American scientific records from the past five years about immunization of the elderly. The articles published from 2008 to 2013 were found in the databases of SciELO, LILACS and BDENF, using the descriptors "vaccination" and "elderly", "immunization" and "elderly" "mass immunization" and "elderly". As result, the Latin American publications reflected the concern of scientists and power structures on the immunization of the elderly, wit respect to its relevance and epidemiological impact, availability, vaccine response after application, common adverse effects, and the adhesion among elderly. It was concluded that there are systematical governmental efforts to avoid epidemic patterns, despite their fragilities about fully covering the population.
