ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an aquatic resistive exercise program (PEAR) on blood pressure and anthropometric measurements of hypertensive women. We evaluated a group of 20 hypertensive women, mean age 69.2 ± 5.5 years. Measurements of blood pressure and anthropometric measurements were performed one week before starting the program of water exercises and after the twelfth week of intervention. We conclude that the EAR promoted reductions in blood pressure and anthropometric measurements in most studied and is a strategy to promote health in this age group, in order to maintain the independence and autonomy.
