ABSTRACT
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare cutaneous disorder composed of chronic recurrent painful ulcers. The variants of pyoderma gangrenosum are classified as ulcerative, pustular, bullous, and vegetative types. Vegetative pyoderma gangrenosum is a very rare variant of pyoderma gangrenosum characterized by a non-painful and not undermined superficial ulcer that has an exophytic and vegetative border. Systemic disease is rarely associated with this variant and the course is usually benign. Furthermore the response of therapy is so good that nonaggressive treatment such as antibiotics or topical steroids are sufficient for complete healing of the lesion. Recently, we were presented with a case of a 71 year old man who had had chronic recurrent cutaneous lesions composed of erythematous vegetative plaques, and superficial ulcers with serous discharge on the suprapubic region, both forearms and thighs. After skin biopsy, a diagnosis of 'vegetative pyoderma gangrenosum' was made. We report this case along with a review of the literature.
