Traditional Medicine in the treatment of headache

ABSTRACT

According to the traditional medicine, headache was due to exopathy or internal injury. Hereafter was the treatment of headache based on the differential diagnosis Headache (H) due to wind-cold pathogen, treatment is relieving the exterior syndrome with drugs pungent in flavor and warm in property, expelling wind and cold pathogens; H due to pathogenic wind-heat, treament is relieving the exterior syndrome with drugs pungent in flavor and cool in property, expelling wind and clearing away heat; H due to pathogenic wind-dampness, treatment is dispersing pathogenic wind, resolving dampness. H due to hyperactivity of the liver-yang, treatment is calming the liver, suppressing yang hyperactivity of the liver. H due to phlegm-dampness, treatment is resolving phlegm; H due to the kidney-yin (or-yang) deficiency, treatment is nourishing yin (or yang) and supplenenting the kidney; H due to deficiency of qi, treatment is reinforcing the spleen to replenish qi; H due to deficiency of blood, treatment is nourishing the blood, alleviating pain; H due to blood stasis, treatment is removing blood stasis to promote blood circulation, alleviating pain.
