ABSTRACT

Objective:

To study the content of polysaccharide and its antitumor activity in the edible part and the disused part of asparagus.

Methods:

A orthogonal design of 4 factors and 3 levels was applied to optimize the solvent concentration, solid-liquid ratio, extraction duration and temperature that influencing the extraction efficiency. The difference in the polysaccharides content between the two parts was compared, and the difference in the antitumor activity against MCF-7 cells was observed with SPSS software.

Results:

The optimum extraction technology was used. The difference in the polysaccharide content between the edible part and disused part of asparagus was significant (P0. 05).

Conclusion:

There is significant difference in the content of polysaccharide in the edible part and the dis-used part of asparagus, however, there is no significant difference in the antitumor activity in the two parts of asparagus.
