ABSTRACT
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of right-stellate ganglion block(SGB)combined with on-dansetron in treatment of nausea and vomiting in female patients after thyroid surgery. Methods A total of 115 pa-tients with routine thyroid surgery were divided into Group A with SGB performed with 5 mL 0.5% lidocaine after induction of general anesthesia, group B with SGB performed with 5ml 0.9% sodium chloride after induction of gen-eral anesthesia and Group C without any block. Three groups were treated with ondansetron 30 min before the end of the surgery. The changes of heart rate and mean arterial pressure(MAP)were observed and recorded at 2h (T1),4 h(T2),6 h(T3)and 24 h(T4)after the operation, and the incidence, degree and discomfort of nausea and vomiting were evaluated by Verbal Rating Scale(VRS). Results The incidence of patients who suffered PONV was lower in group A when compared with that in group B(7.5% vs.17.5%,P<0.05)and group C(7.5% vs. 20%,P < 0.05)24 h after surgery. There were 3 cases with PONV(7.5%)in group A,7 cases(17.5%)in group B and 8 cases(20%)in group C,and the incidence of nausea and vomiting in group B and C was signifi-cantly higher than that in group A(P < 0.05). There was no significant difference regarding to HR and MAP be-tween the three groups at T1,T2,T3and T4.Conclusion Right-SGB combined with ondansetron can effectively re-duce the incidence of nausea and vomiting after thyroid surgery in female patients.
