Research of Ye Tianshi's herb-using regulation in dysphagia based on date mining / 国际中医中药杂志

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To study the rule of using herbs on treating dysphagia created by Ye Tianshi.

Methods:

Collected the priscriptions of TCM treating dysphagia from the book Clinical Medical Cases and Unpublished YE's Medical Records. We processed them in the Excel 2013 with data mining methods by SPSS 22.0, analized the functions, meridian and correlation rule of commonly seen herbs and with frequency analysis method. Combined with the statistical results, review the literature content, summarize the treatment experience of Ye Tianshi.

Results:

There are 39 prescriptions included in the treatment of dysphagia, including 50 herbs. The frequently appeared herbs in the cases of dysphagia were Pinellia Tuber (61.5%), Poria Cocos (56.4%), Ginger (46.2%), Coptidis Rhizoma (33.3%), Panax Ginseng (28.2%). The top five categories of functions were resolving phlegm and relieving cough and asthma (28.4%), deficiency syndromes (12.3%), relieving exterior syndromes (11.8%), regulating qi (11.3%) and diuresis and diffusing dampness (11.3%). The frequently used flavors of Chinese herbs were bitter, pungent and sweet; as for the nature of herbs, warm and cold ones were commonly used; and targeted the meridians of lung, spleen and stomach. There were three herbs-group susually contain 2 kinds of herbs Citrus Aurantium & Pinellia Tuber, Coptidis Rhizoma & Pinellia Tuber, and Ginger & Pinellia Tuber. There were three usually contain 3 kinds of herbs Poria Cocos-Coptidis Rhizome-Pinellia Tuber, Poria Cocos-Ginger-Pinellia Tuber, and Coptidis Rhizome-Ginger-Pinellia Tuber.

Conclusions:

Ye Tianshi paid attention to physical and mental recuperation when treating dysphagia. According to the characteristics of the disease, he flexibly chose the cold or hot herbs by nature, and emphasized the recuperation of the lung, spleen, stomach and other zang-fu organs and used more herbs that could resolve phlegm and relieve cough and asthma, promoted the method of using pungent and bitter herbs. He also paid attention to warm yang with ginger treatment, especially ginger juice. He created a new method to treat the dysphagiaby regulating body fluid of lung and stomach, and used herbs like Glycyrrhiza with caution.
