ABSTRACT
The human gut microbiota is the most important component of human microecology, and the relative content and diversity of gut microbiota always change along with aging. In recent years, along with the study progression of gut microbiota and its metabolites, it has been found that gut microbiota is closely related to the atherosclerosis. As we all know, atherosclerosis is a common disease in the elderly.Aging can cause vascular endothelial cells(VECs)injury, lipid metabolism disorder, smooth muscle cells change and plaque rapture, which are important risk factors for atherosclerosis. At present, many studies are devoted to exploring the potential relationship of gut microbiota with geriatric diseases and health in elderly people. This article will review the progress in aging, gut microbiota and atherosclerosis, in order to provide new research directions for the prevention and treatment of aging-related cardiovascular diseases in the future.
