A vivência em uma instituição de longa permanência: significados atribuídos pelos idosos / The life in an institution of long permanence: the meaning attributed by aged

RESUMO

Resumo As Instituições de Longa Permanência para Idosos (ILPI) são locais para residência coletiva, nas quais pessoas com idade avançada buscam a proteção e o amparo que, frequentemente, não encontraram no seu ambiente familiar e social. O ambiente de convivência familiar abrange um conjunto de hábitos e valores, transmitidos de geração em geração e que se refletem no cotidiano das pessoas. Deste modo, quando idosos são encaminhados para viver em ILPI, correm um risco de maior isolamento e insatisfação com a vida. O estudo teve como objetivo geral interpretar o significado atribuído pelos idosos a sua vivência em uma ILPI do município de Curitiba, Paraná. Trata-se de estudo qualitativo com abordagem etnográfica, segundo o referencial metodológico de Spradley e McCurdy (1972; 1979; 1980), realizado em uma ILPI de caráter privado e com fins lucrativos. As informações foram coletadas por meio de observação participante e entrevista etnográfica, no período de janeiro a agosto de 2010. Os informantes-chaves foram os idosos residentes, selecionados entre aqueles que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão no estudo. A análise das informações foi realizada concomitante à coleta, em domínios, taxonomias e temática. Os domínios culturais que emergiram foram motivos que levaram a viver na ILPI; as maneiras de viver na ILPI atividades do cotidiano; as atividades promovidas pela ILPI; sentimentos atribuídos à vivência na ILPI; atributos da ILPI segundo os idosos e os atributos das pessoas que residem na ILPI segundo os idosos - e o tema cultural ILPI em busca pelo néctar da vida. Esteve ressaltada, nos discursos dos idosos, a busca por um local onde eles possam sentir-se cuidados. Esse cuidado foi compreendido de uma forma abrangente, como a condição para a sobrevivência. O contexto institucional para os residentes significa a possibilidade do cuidado como forma de manutenção da vida e otimização de seu bem-estar. Os idosos buscam adaptar-se às normas e rotinas da instituição e desenvolvem estratégias próprias contra a mortificação do eu. Embora a ILPI não se caracterize como uma instituição total, pode-se identificar alguns traços delas no cotidiano, os quais foram discutidos nos domínios culturais.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The Institutions of Long Permanence for Aged (ILPI) are local for collective residence, in which people with advanced ages search the protection and the support that, frequently, they had not found in familiar and social environment. The environment of familiar live together encloses a set of habits and values, transmitted of generation in generation and that are reflected in the daily one of these people. In this way, when the aged ones are directed to live in these institutions, a risk of bigger isolation and disatisfaction with the life run. The aim of this study was to interpret the meaning attributed by aged for the experience in an ILPI, in the city of Curitiba, Paraná. It is a qualitative study with ethnographic approach with methodologic referencial according to Spradley and McCurdy (1972; 1979; 1980), carried through in an ILPI of private character with lucrative ends. The information had been collected by means of participant observation and ethnographic interview, in the period of January to August of 2010. The cultural informants had been the aged residents, chosen teams between whom had taken care of the criteria of inclusion in the study. The analysis of the information was carried through concomitant to the collection, in domains, taxonomic and thematic. The cultural domains that had emerged had been reasons that had led to live in the ILPI; the ways to live in the ILPI activities of the daily one; the activities promoted by the ILPI; feelings attributed to the experience in the ILPI; attributes of ILPI according to the aged; and the attributes of the people who live in the ILPI according to the aged - and cultural theme ILPI in search for the nectar of the life. In the aged speeches was salient a search for a place where they can feel themselves well-taken care of. This care understood of a wide way as the condition for the survival. The institucional context for the residents means the possibility of care, as form of maintenance the life and improve well-being. They search to adapt with the norms and routines of the institution and develop proper strategies against the mortification of self. Although this ILPI cannot be characterized as a total institution, some traces of them can be identified in the daily one, that had been argued in the cultural domain.
