ABSTRACT Introduction:
Integrative and complementary practices (ICPs) were instituted in the Unified Health System through the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices and by ordinance GM/MS No. 971 of 2006.Objective:
To assess factors related to the use of ICPs in a municipality in the southern region of Mato Grosso. Methods:
A cross-sectional cohort study, with a quantitative and descriptive approach, carried out in a municipality of Mato Grosso in 2018. Data collection was through a semi-structured questionnaire. For statistical analysis, data were tabulated in EpiInfo software version 7.0. Statistical associations between dependent and independent variables were investigated using the chi-square test, the null hypothesis being rejected when p less than or equal to 0.05, and logistic regression models were developed, with estimation of the odds ratio and confidence interval 95%. Research approved by the Research Ethics Committee (Opinion 2,354,295).Results:
In this study with 370 individuals, the use of ICPs was associated with female gender (OR=1.68, 95% CI; p=0.0254), age equal to or greater than 60 years (OR= 2.71, 95% CI; p=0.0002) and having their own home (OR= 1.71 95% CI; p=0.0321). Furthermore, having chronic diseases such as systemic arterial hypertension, arthritis, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases was not associated with the use of ICPs.Conclusions:
The results showed that most of these users' profile corresponded to women, adults, brown-skinned, and low education and income levels. There was a statistically significant association with negative responses to smoking, alcohol consumption, overweight, anxiety, family history of hypertension, arthritis, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease.
