Mal-estar no parque humano: da crise do humanismo à biotecnologia / Discontent in the human park: from the humanism crisis to biotechnology

RESUMO

O artigo discute criticamente a tese de Peter Sloterdijk, segundo a qual a crise contemporânea do humanismo contribuiria para a emergência da biotecnologia como instrumento de formação humana. Este trabalho compreende duas etapas. Primeiramente, busca-se elucidar o papel do humanismo no processo civilizatório ocidental e os fatores envolvidos na crise identificada pelo autor. Trata-se de articular o pensamento de Sloterdijk aos escritos de Heidegger e Nietzsche, refletindo-se sobre a superação do humanismo, tal como abordada por estes filósofos. Por conseguinte, a segunda etapa do trabalho problematiza os efeitos antropogênicos da biotecnologia. Para isto, o pensamento de Sloterdijk será articulado a debates recentes sobre as implicações éticas do melhoramento humano. Espera-se, com este artigo, ponderar sobre as aplicações aceitáveis da biotecnologia.

ABSTRACT

This article critically discusses Peter Sloterdijk's thesis that the contemporary crisis of humanism would contribute to the emergence of biotechnology as an instrument of human formation. This work comprises two steps. First, it tries to elucidate the role of humanism in the Western civilizational process and the factors involved in the crisis identified by the author. For the consecution of this step, Sloterdijk's thought will be articulated to the writings of Heidegger and Nietzsche, allowing us to reflect on the overcoming of humanism. Therefore, the second stage of this work problematizes the anthropogenic effects of biotechnology. Sloterdijk's thinking will be articulated to recent debates on the ethical implications of human enhancement technologies. Through this analysis, it is intended to recognize acceptable applications of biotechnology.
