ABSTRACT
The great parity (GM) turns out to be a risk factor strongly associated with causes of disability, illness and death among women of reproductive age in developing countries as well as important alterations in fetal-neonatal health. We conducted a descriptive and inferential qualitativequantitative study, whose main objective is to analyze the demographic differences among GM pregnant women from those who are not, during the period 2008-2009. And to explore socio-cultural dimensions related with GM condition into the Hospital Materno Infantil Ramon Sardas patients. We have obtained variables from primary data sources (ad-hoc prepared semi-structured interview) and secondary data sources (Perinatal history). The most associated with GM variables were age at the first birth, negative connotation to contraception and nationality. Other significant associations were history of sexual abuse and abuse, low educational attainment, migration, and structural poverty. Large family and GM mother age at the first delivery were not associated. It is proposed to consider these aspects in the following areas To complement a boarding from socio-demographic and cultural aspects, to develop interventions strategies as a Program of integral attention of this particularly vulnerable group of women. To train the health staff in order to reduce their risks To transfer the results and to project the experience to hospitals with similar characteristics.
