ABSTRACT
One hundred and fifty rats were used in this study and divided into five equal groups [A, B, C, D and E] and a control group and each group was subdivided into three equal subgroups. From the results obtained it was concluded that with pneumoperitoneum, there is an evidence of gut ischemic and oxidative stress. Pneumoperitoneum for less than two hours at a pressure of 15 mmHg or less had no long lasting harmful effect. Pneumoperitoneum for more than three hours at a pressure of 15 mmHg or pneumoperitoneum for less than two hours and a pressure of more than 15 mmHg was harmful. These changes should be considered during laparoscopic surgery
