Determining bed needs from occupancy rates in hospitals of Alexandria health directorate

ABSTRACT

Means of duration of patient's stay, occupancy rate and bed turnover rate for the hospitals belonging to Alex and ria Health Directorate during the period from 1980 to 1988 were calculated. The appropriate number of beds using the st and ard deviation formula based on the Poisson distribution was estimated for each hospital. The study indicated overbedding among 12 out of these hospitals with subsequent over expenditure
