ABSTRACT
Ten patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome [AIDS] and with oral Kaposi's sarcoma were studied. Only one of ten patients with AIDS had evidence of Kaposi's sarcoma on the skin. Several clinical forms of oral Kaposi's sarcoma can be distinguished as nodule, macule and ulcer. There were no characteristic histologic features for each type and no correlation between the oral types and histologic behavior of the lesions. Histologically, some nodular lesions manifest mixed cellularity, extensive dilatation of lymphatic spaces and proliferation of spindle cells. The other nodular lesions manifest only extensive dilatation of lymphatic spaces. The ulcerated lesions manifest prominent spindle cell proliferation at the early stage. Serial sections of the biopsy specimens should be examined in order to reach diagnosis
