ABSTRACT
Sealant Therapy is a preventive method which uses Sealant in order to control the primary carries in teeth. Sealant Therapy builds a physical barrier around a pit or fissure in order to protect them from the entrance of bacteria.

Background:

Pit and fissure lesions occur mostly i.e around 90%, in childhood and adolescence and if they are not prevented or treated, their incidence rate will increase. The only efficient preventive method is Sealant therapy. Sealant Therapy is used over the Occlusal surface of the permanent teeth. This method is mostly used in children with mental and physical retardation, learning and social problems. It is widely mentioned if sealant is kept for a long time, its anti-carries activity will also last for long. Aspa 2 which is a polymer of ionic cement has cariostatic effects and it is used in Sealant therapy for its high capacity of fluoride. Sealant therapy is used in mouth dryness, in patients who are treated with orthodontist, and in deep and irregular pits and fissures. However, it is not used in dental carries of proximal surfaces, in patients whose pit or fissure are treated spontaneously, in case of large or middle decays which may develop to interproximal carries in future, in superficial fissures and in case of uncontrolled moisture due to insufficient eruption. Recently, there has been publishes about the harms of Bisphenol A [BPA] in dental sealants which state's that its usage might develop the risk of cancer especially the breast cancer. Dental sealant has some special limitations. There is no certain information whether to use sealant in primary stages of carries or not. Some researches show that using it in primary stages of carries reduces the number of microorganisms, but it had some contradictory affects as well. Although the dental sheathe protects the teeth from carries, there are some religious sentences against it. However, it is better to use a highly trusty religious sentence in case a sealant is to be used for the protection of a normal tooth from a carries
