ABSTRACT
Serum prolactin levels were screened in 128 women, of whom 51 [40%] were menstruating regularly, and the rest were amenorrheic. Among the regularly menstruating subjects, 30 [24%] had serum prolactin concentration within normal limits [1.9-25.9 ng/ml], whereas the remaining 21 [16%] had high prolactin concentrations. In the amenorrheic subjects 58 [45%] were having serum prolactin levels within the normal limit, while 19 [15%] demonstrated elevated prolactin levels. The present data indicate that 21 menstruating and 19 amenorrheic women had serum concentration of prolactin above normal limits and suggest that serum prolactin concentrations could be used as an effective tool for determination of female factor infertility
