ABSTRACT
The purpose of the present study was to histopathologically evaluate the pulpalreaction to SrCl2 as a capping material separately and in combination withCa[OH]2. A total of 36 adult male rats with an average age of 8Weeks was selected. They were divided into three groups. Teeth were specified for each capping material as follows Group I, upper right first molar for capping with Ca[OH]2; group II, upper left first molar for capping with SrCl2; group III, upper left second molar for capping with a mixture of SrCl2 and Ca[OH]2; group IV, upper right second molar and upper left third molar were left intact as control group. From the results obtained, it was concludedthat strontium chloride could be introduced as a pulp capping material underinvestigation. Strontium chloride was supplied in a powder form for thisinvestigation. Further studies are needed to introduce the material in asuitable form for clinical application. Capping with strontium chloridemaintains pulp vitality and stimulates reparative dentin formation. The combination of strontium chloride and calcium hydroxide has a superiorbiological effect on traumatized exposed pulp in the form of milder inflammatoryreaction as well as stimulation of dentin calcification. Further studies areneeded for the determination of the histochemical and biochemical changes thatwould occur in the vital exposed pulp tissue capped with these experimentalmaterials
