Static un-reamed interlocking nail in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures

ABSTRACT
Sixty-nine femoral shaft fractures constituted the material of this study. All the cases were treated by static undreamed interlocking nail from February 1996 to September 2002 in Damanhour Teaching Hospital. The study included 54 men [78.3%], and 15 women [2 1.7%] with ratio 3.6, their ages range from 19 to 67 with average 41.5years. The right side was affected in 42 patients [60.9%], while the left in 27 [39.1%]. Road traffic accident was the cause of the fracture in 66 patients, and severe fall in 3. Associated injuries were present in 7 patients. All fractures were fixed by Russell Taylor delta femoral interlocking nails. Union was achieved in all cases by the end of 24 weeks; all patients returned to the prefracture lifestyle
