surgical management of the prolapsed intervertebral disc in Saddam Medical College

ABSTRACT

Fenestration operation was studied in a total of 103 patients followed up for a period of 3-24 months. The indications, operation procedure and the result of this type of operation were detailed. This review proves beyond any doubt the advantages of this procedure when conservative means fail. Only after a positive metrizamide myeloraphy the operation was done. Although the operative field is limited, the advantages of this type of procedure in selected cases are great. This procedure has minimal mortality and minimal morbidity with excellent results for the patients.
