ABSTRACT
Neonatal sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality among newborn infants in Pakistan. While there has been a definite change in the spectrum of organisms in the West, the infection rates have varied from 1-4 per 1000 births. Data from surveillance of neonatal sepsis among newborns at Civil Hospital, Karachi suggests a different microbial spectrum with predominance of gram negative organisms, many of which are multiresistant
