ABSTRACT
Chloramphenicol, Co-Trimoxazole and Amoxycillin are first line drugs used for treating Salmonellosis. There are instances where response to treatment is far from satisfactory and potentially toxic drugs are unnecessarily used for prolonged periods. One hundred consecutive positive blood cultures for Salmonella were analysed, highlighting resistance to first line drugs, [Chloramphenicol [30%], Co-trimoxazole [25%] and Amoxycillin [21%]]. Good sensitivity pattern emerged for Aztreonam [94%], Cefotaxime [94%] and Phosphomycine [89%]. The study also brings forward the need of doing blood culture and sensitivity for managing salmonellosis with confidence
