Bilateral posterior lenticonus

ABSTRACT

Posterior lenticonus usually occurs unilaterally and sporadically. Only a few cases of uncomplicated bilateral familial posterior lenticonus are previously reported; its aetiology is unknown. We reported a family with two affected siblings. Echography of the posterior segment in one child showed definite posterior hyaloid artery remnants connecting the posterior capsule to the disc. Posterior lenticonus is relatively uncommon anomaly of the lens. Only three cases of uncomplicated bilateral familial posterior lenticonus have been reported. A cone-like defect exists in the posterior capsule that can range in diameter from 2 to 8 mm. Affected subjects commonly present with amblyopia or esotropia during childhood. Bilateral presentation and family incidence are uncommonly seen.
