Preparation of plain and adjuvant adsorbed cholera vaccine

ABSTRACT
On account of the short duration of immunity conferred by all conventional cholera vaccines, which ranged between 3 - 6 months as previously shown by controlled field trials carried during the period from 1962 -1966 in Pakistan, Philippines and India, and since bacterial cholera vaccines have proved to be superior to cholera toxoids in cholera prevention, vaccines adsorbed on adjuvants were considered in order to try to prolong its efficacy time. In this study aluminium hydroxide was chosen as an adjuvant, three types of cholera vaccines were prepared, a plain vaccine and two aluminium hydroxide - adsorbed vaccines one of them had been adsorbed to a heavy gel, the other was adsorbed to a light gel. All three vaccines were then tested for antibody production at different periods to compare the corresponding immune response
