ABSTRACT
The effects of compression-plating and open intra-medullary nailing in the treatment of fracture shaft of the femur in adult were compared. 31 cases of fracture shaft of the femur were treated by open reduction and internal fixation, 17 cases treated by intramedullary nail fixation using kuntscher nail and 14 cases were treated by dynamic- compression plate fixation. An antero-lateral exposure were used for plating and postero-lateral exposure were used for intramedullary nail. All patients evaluated postoperatively for knee motion, hip motion and ankle motion, as well as gait, postoperative complaint of the patient and for girth of the thigh. The results were excellent in cases treated by intramedullary nail and very good in cases treated by plating and screw fixation
