ABSTRACT
This study was designed to evaluate and compare the efficiency of scabine and permethrin in treatment of scabies. So, skin biopsies were taken from the patients before and after treatment. The results revealed that, in scabietic untreated skin, foci of vacuolated eosinophilic PAS positive material were present in between the granular and horny layer of the epidermis within which mononuclear cells infiltration and either mite's egg shells or focal debris of the parasite were present. The epidermal cells were vacuolated, the dermis was congested and showed leukocytic cells infiltration together with fragmentation and reduction in the collageneous and reticular fibers. As regards scabine treated skin specimens the epidermal cells were hazy with ill defined cell boundaries and they showed a definite increase in the PAS reaction. The dermis contained cell nests and inflammatory cells with an increase in both the collageneous and reticular fibers. In permethrin treated skin specimens the epidermis and dermis appeared more or less similar to control specimens
