ABSTRACT
Fungal keratitis, which can be caused by various species of fungi, is a well recognized infection of the cornea and has been reported with increasing frequency due to the widespread use of corticosteroids and antibiotics. We report the case of a 55 year old Saudi male with deep stromal Alternaria keratitis, diagnosed histopathological who was treated successfully by penetrating keratoplasty in combination with antifungal therapy. To our knowledge this the first case to be reported in Saudi Arabia of fungal keratitis caused by Alternaria. Early surgical intervention appears to be a reasonable approach for the treatment of deep keratomycosis
