ABSTRACT
52 strains of pneumococci were isolated at Charles Nicolle hospital of Tunis during 3 years period [1990-1992]. The disc susceptibility test to antibiotics showed 36,5% of the isolates with abnormal susceptibility to penicilline. They were mainly observed in tract respiratory samples [pleural fluids 100%, tracheal aspirates 40%]. Resistance to other antibiotics was often associated [erythromycin and tetracyclines 52,6%]. The MICs of penicillin G, ampicillin, cefotaxim determined on a sample of 27 strains showed that 7 of them were moderately resistant to penicillin [mean MIC 0,25micro g/ml] and 2 were resistant to a high level [mean MIC 3micro g/ml]. Cefotaxim and imipenem were the most active antibiotic on these strains with mean MICs of 0,29 micro g/ml respectively
