ABSTRACT
A diet containing 50% vanaspati ghee and 50% butter fat was given to morbid obese patients; this diet combination was compared with the controlled diet group for thirty nine weeks. The total morbid obese male patients were 100 and were divided into 'A' and 'B' groups, ages between 28 to 50 years who were already on a treatment for morbid obesity. 'A' group was given a diet containing soya bean oil whereas 'B' group was given a diet composed of butter fat and vanaspati ghee. This in vivo studies of dietary intake showed that the group fed on soya been oil exhibited significant changes in their blood lipid profile and average body weght which were downward and stabilized at one stage thereafter, there were no further changes whereas the group fed with butter fat and vanaspati ghee showed upward rise. It can be concluded that polyunsaturated fats are capable of maintaining the body weight at certain limits in the males and thus aid in minimizing the morbid obesity
