ABSTRACT
Inguinal hernia is common. Surgery is the only satisfactory treatment. General/ spinal anaesthesia are not free from complications and need prolonged hospital stay. Patients and methods:
Sixty inguinal hernia patients 10 years to > 60 years of age were operated under 0.5% lignocaine with 1400,000 adrenaline infiltration. Adequate analgesia was obtained during the operation and in early post operative period. Average hospital stay was 44 hours and average cost was Rs. 360 only. Inguinal hernia repair under local infiltration anaesthesia is safe and economical
