ABSTRACT
The modern NICU requires careful planning to maximize the efficient use of place and resources cost and constant change in needs because of rapid progress in technology and therapeutic approaches are the limiting factors in developing an ideal unit. A complex problem such as this should be the work of a team consisting of neonatologists, the nurse in charge, the architect aid the hospital administration. Ideally, the unit should be close to the delivery suite, and should provide easy access to the infant. Because of the increasing number of monitoring and respiratory devices, the space should be adequately apportioned, to include beside the nursery space other important allotments for personnel, office space, teaching-conference room, other services as storage, gowning and scrubbing soiled utility, control station etc
