Frequence et epidimiologie du cance de la prostate au service d' urologie du chu-Tokoin [Lome - Togo]

ABSTRACT

The autors reported a retrospective study of 417 cases of patients treated at consultation and taken to the hospital for prostatic dysuria and hytency of urine in order to appreciate the incidence and the different diagnosis methods of prostatic cancer at CHU-LOME from January 1989 to December 1995. The overage age was 55 with the extreme from 40 to 91 years; the only para-clinic exams done at CHU-LOME were PROSTATIC PHOSPHATE ACID, SUPRA-PUBIS ECHOGRAPHY and TROUGH THE RECTUM BIOPSY OF THE PROSTATE. 417 prostatic specimens were taken with 285 after prostatectomy and 132 after biopsy of the prostate. After histopathological examination 95 cancers were diagnosed with 57 cases from the biopsy of the prostate and 38 cases from prostatectomy specimens. 1027 patients were admitted in the UROLOGY service of CHU-LOME at that period and the prostatic cancer incidence was 9.25% [95/1027]; the section of patients from 50 to 79 years were very affected and the patients less than 50 years were touched with a weak% [2,1%- 2/95];the exact frequency of the prostatic cancer at CHU-LOME was difficult to establish due to the defficiency of modern prostatic methods of investigation [Trough the rectum echography and Specific prostatic antigen mesure]
